This year, both the senior and the junior quizzes took place on the same day, in the last week of the third term. From a logistics point of view this worked well, as the hall only had to be prepared once and the grade seven contestants could help the grade threes with their table decorations.
This is an eagerly anticipated event in the Foundation Phase and the teams are chosen from the grade three pupils who all write a selection quiz.
Each house team is made up of four contestants who work together to answer 50 multiple choice questions. There are also questions for the audience which is made up of all the foundation phase pupils.
Weymouth House was the eventual winner with Chapman only one point behind in second place, Albury in third place and Kennersley fourth.
The quiz started with a visual category where teams had to identify ten well-known South African personalities from their photographs.
Then, after answering 50 multiple choice questions, teams had to identify ten songs and their singers. This musical category is a big favorite, especially with the audience members who enjoy singing and moving to the music.
The competition was strong, with teams changing places throughout the quiz. Albury came out tops in the end, with an impressive 54 points. Kennersley was second with 52 points, Weymouth just one point behind with 51 and Chapman in fourth place with 50 points.
