The Grade 6 Reading Competition was held on the 6th of August 2019 in the school library. The competition was fierce between our eight finalists namely, in order of appearance, Phillipa de Vos (Room 17), Ishaam Sandan (Room 14), Imaan Bhene (Room 14), Audrey Yossakamlouk (Room 16), Jade Carolus (Room 15), Fezile Damoyi (Room 15), Kate Kruger (Room 15) and Zahraa Cadderbegg (Room 16).
The book that was read this year was Lemony Snicket’s – A Series of Unfortunate Events. The audience was captivated by Mrs Richardson’s reading of the story and made our finalists feel at ease when it was their turn to read. A big thank you to her for taking time and reading to us.
Our judge for the morning was Mrs Venter. She said that she was impressed with all the readers and was excited to have had a preview of what she would enjoy in Grade 7 next year.
After much deliberation from Mrs Venter and the Grade 6 English team, a decision was reached. Fezile Damoyi walked away with a Highly Commended award for his brilliant effort. Imaan Bhene received top honours for the morning, making her the winner of the 2019 Grade 6 Reading Competition.
Thank you to the parents of the finalists for being with us this morning and thank you, once again, to Mrs Venter for judging the competition. Well done to all involved.
