Sumcay 2019

May 6, 2019

There was much excitement in the air as the Grade Four pupils arrived at school, all packed and ready for their first EVER overnight excursion. All the Grade Four teachers, Miss Ferraris and Miss Bannister accompanied the pupils. However, having Mr Harris join, helped us to realise just how fortunate we are to have such a devoted and fun headmaster at Herbert Hurd.

With the newly formed groups, team mottos and determination, teams took part in various team challenges such as: balancing nails, water-bucket relay, scavenger hunt, building a spaghetti tower and much more!

After a delicious supper, Mr Harris took the pupils for a lovely evening walk. There was not a breath of wind and the beautiful moon was clearly showing off. The pupils were surprised by a special guest, Mr Garner, who built a bonfire and taught them some really funny and catchy songs.

At 7:30am, it was time for an early morning “move and groove” session which was led by Miss Ferraris. The pupils thoroughly enjoyed learning a new dance.

Group Nineteen was the overall Sumcay Winners for 2019! Congratulations to Wade Beling, Tristan Brandt, Deanu Bezuidenhout, Ethan Erusmus, Akhumzi Tete, Riley Niekerk, Lindo Mzinyati and Shaydon Kemoetie. Well done to each and every Grade Four pupil for the role that you played in your team.

We can all agree that life-long memories were made!
