The music department participated in the Victoria Park Music Experience for the first time in 2018 and thoroughly enjoyed the event. We were excited to attend again this year and eagerly began preparations as soon as we received the music. The music proved to be a challenge but the children worked on it and were excited when the time arrived.
All the Senior Band and Senior Choir members from Grade 5-7 spent the afternoon of 7 February 2019 rehearsing at Victoria Park High School, along with Sunridge Primary School, Greenwood Primary School, Summerwood Primary School, Erica Primary School and some of the Victoria Park High School music students. The aim of the event was for all the schools to play together as a massed band and massed choir, in order to be able to learn and share the enjoyment of making music together.
The event ended with a concert open to the public where all the schools performed their massed items and ended the evening with all the choirs and bands together in a rousing rendition of Hey Soul Sister. It was quite an experience, with over 200 very talented children performing and making beautiful music together. Our thanks go to the Victoria Park High School music staff for organizing this event and we look forward to future collaborations of this nature.
