Herbert Hurd hosted it 4th annual “Herbie mini cricket festival”. It was held on Saturday, 03 November, at the Birkholtz fields.
This year we were blessed when our new main sponsor, Chris Heyns of The Acres Spar, came on board to make this event bigger and better. With his help, we managed to give every player an awesome goodie bag and hand out tons of lucky draw prizes and vouchers. The other committed sponsors were “Bellingham and Smith” cricket bat factory and Brian Bands Sports.
The schools who participated were Astra, Clarendon Park, Cotswold Preparatory, St Georges, Summerwood, Sunridge, Bonzai Primary and Union from Graaff-Reinet. We were blessed with a lovely sunny day and the players could not wait to get started. A total of 154 players and 30 coaches were present.
The coaches selected the 36 Most Valuable Players (MVP) of the day from the 18 teams available (2 best players per team).
The MVP’s from Herbert Hurd were:
U9D – Callum Pillay, Connor Jansen Van Vuuren
U9C – Caleb Allison, Tayten Plato-Uithaler
U9B – Valentino Lavers, Wade Beling
U9A – Xhanti Zweni, Daniel Oberholzer
HH 1 - Graeme Frieslaar
The player who scored the most runs was our own little Hurdian, Graeme Frieslaar, who had the highest total of 18 runs.
A BIG thank you to our headmaster, Mr Harris, coaches and staff for creating an awesome atmosphere and a very successful day.
