Grade 2 Reading Competition
“You can find magic
wherever you look,
Sit back and relax,
all you need is a book!”
- Dr. Seuss -
We all LOVE to listen to a good story and this is the charm of the Reading Competitions held across the school. It isn’t all about the mechanics of reading, the audience get to “sit back and relax” and are entertained as our magnificent readers transport us beyond the now into a world of the imagination!
We may be only 8 years of age BUT our talent for reading with expression, fluency and intonation must never be underestimated. Our readers represented the Grade 2 body of learners with pride and one could feel the tangible nerves as the nervous parents watched their precious children excel. Our readers on the other handed displayed nerves of steel!
Congratulations to all the participants this year. You rose to the challenge and wowed us all. Thank you for reading with exuberance. To our winner for 2019, Thubelihle Nodwele, CONGRATULATIONS!
To our team of adjudicators, Mrs Brettenny, Mrs Warneke and Mrs Yarborough, we know it is always a close competition and we are ever thankful for your expertise, encouragement and presence.
We cannot forget to mention Mrs Richardson’s role that she plays in every readers life at Herbert Hurd. She is not only the backbone that sources wonderful stories that fill the library shelves but she is the enthusiasm behind every library lesson and the heart of our love for reading at Herbert Hurd. Thank you for always assisting us with our Reading Competitions. We couldn’t do it without you!
The Grade 2 Reading Competition may be over for 2019 BUT let our love for reading continue to grow. Thank you to the parent body who supported their children this past Wednesday. To our Grade 2 parent body… never stop encouraging reading. “ALL WE NEED IS A BOOK!”
