The year started at top speed for the Music Department this year. First, we are very happy to welcome two new staff members – Ms. Uithaler (Piano) and Mr. Ray (Piano). We hope that they will be very happy here and we look forward to many new and exciting musical ventures.

Our very first performance of the year occurred a mere eight school days after the start of the school year. Newton Park Pre-Primary invited the Senior Band to perform at their 60th Birthday Celebrations on 25 January 2020. The Band, consisting only of Grade 6 and 7 musicians, played for an hour in the grounds of the school. In addition, Mr. Koopman invited ex-Hurdians, who had been at Newton Park Pre-Primary, to join the performance. We were proud to include Cody Coombe-Davis, Nathan McCallum, Jordan Jenneker, Caitlyn Blouw, Arden Harris and Ms. Uithaler (ex-Hurdian!). Our thanks to them and Ms. Fowlds and Mr. Ray for joining the children in making the performance most enjoyable....

On Thursday, 18 July 2019, the Music Department presented the first of three Studio Concerts. These concerts are an opportunity for every music student to perform as a soloist for family and friends in an informal setting. We are very proud of the progress made by each one of these children and look forward to watching them experience the magic that is music.

Our next concert, Studio Concert: Allegro, will take place on 5 September 2019, and will feature all our Royal School of Music candidates who w...

The music department participated in the Victoria Park Music Experience for the first time in 2018 and thoroughly enjoyed the event. We were excited to attend again this year and eagerly began preparations as soon as we received the music. The music proved to be a challenge but the children worked on it and were excited when the time arrived.

All the Senior Band and Senior Choir members from Grade 5-7 spent the afternoon of 7 February 2019 rehearsing at Victoria Park High School, along with Sunridge Primary School, Greenwood Primary School, Summerwood Primary School, Erica Primary School and some of the Victoria Park High School music students. The aim of the event was for all the schools to play together as a massed band and massed choir, in order to be able to learn and share the enjoyment of making music together.

The event ended with a concert open to the public where all the schools performed their massed items and ended the evening with all the choirs and bands together in a rousin...
