Band Camp 2019

The band camp started as usual; with the chaos of packing. Students like ants carrying instruments, stands and percussion back and forth. Once all of the packing was done and dusted, we left for Sumcay with a few minutes to spare. After the drive, which is always beautiful with a view of Groendaal, we arrived at a hot and windy Sumcay. Straight away we began unpacking, setting up both halls for the Junior and Senior band, after which the students had a bit of free time. Mr Koopman decided that, because we were early, the bands could have a 30 minute, unplanned rehearsal just to get the students into the swing of things. It was a delightful morning for the Grade 2 classes as we sat in the audience and we were enthralled by the costumes, lighting, lyrics, dance and of course the young actors and actresses that shared the stage in the Grey Junior/Collegiate SHREK performance. What a magical performance! We laughed, we shed a tear and we left feeling the “FOREVER AFTER” magic of SHREK.

Grade Two at Cape Recife – Fun, Sun and Freedom

The Grade Two classes headed down to the Cape Recife Nature Reserve for some fun on Tuesday the 5 March. The towering lighthouse and open stretch of beach along this beautiful “wildside” of our Port Elizabeth coastline welcomed us with its grey skies and low tide. There was little wind to dampen our spirits as we spent the day exploring the shoreline in search of beach treasures. One really needn’t plan the day. With a perfect tidal pool to take a dip, many rock pools to explore and of course plenty of sand to dig, bury and build a sandcastle the time flew by. With pleas to fish how could we say no. Victoria Park Music Experience

The music department participated in the Victoria Park Music Experience for the first time in 2018 and thoroughly enjoyed the event. We were excited to attend again this year and eagerly began preparations as soon as we received the music. The music proved to be a challenge but the children worked on it and were excited when the time arrived. All the Senior Band and Senior Choir members from Grade 5-7 spent the afternoon of 7 February 2019 rehearsing at Victoria Park High School, along with Sunridge Primary School, Greenwood Primary School, Summerwood Primary School, Erica Primary School and some of the Victoria Park High School music students.
