Our staff have had wonderful two days of iPad training this week. Parents became teachers for a few hours and helped to look after the classes while our staff were trained by Wendy from Think Ahead. Yesterday they were introduced to the exciting world of coding and got to play with Sphero balls. We have an amazingly creative staff and it was wonderful to watch them collaborating in teams. We look forward to seeing all the new ideas in the classroom in the near future.
The inaugural Acres Spar-JCB u9 Youth Day Festival, held on 16 June, was immensely successful. The schools who participated were Bethelsdorp Road, Charlo, Bonzai, Clarendon Park, Summerwood, West End and Westering. The players thoroughly appreciated the “goodie-bags” they received and enjoyed the festival matches. We would like to thank our generous sponsors, Mr Chris Heyns of The Acres Spar and Mr Marinus Rautenbach of Kemach JCB. The “Herbie Carnival and Fun Run” which took place on the hockey had a number of food trucks selling various items. This, in conjunction with the live bands, created an awesome atmosphere, which set the tone for the whole day. The spectators were treated to awesom
On Tuesday the 19th June 2018, the Grade Seven learners enjoyed an interesting Maths Day. They learnt about total surface area and volume through a number of practical activities in and around the school. The grade was split into groups which rotated among eight activities based on "A Day in the Life of Mr Goosen" , our estate manager. The learners had a great time learning how to use a tape measure correctly, while measuring the tennis courts, swimming pool, kombi, garages etc.
Some Grade 7 boys had great fun building our very own Ecobrick wall at school today. Thank you to each and every member of the HHPS family who has participated inthis project. The support has been amazing! We have collected 562 Ecobricks so far.
On Friday 8 June April Gabriel took part in the PE District spelling bee where she competed against top spellers from across Port Elizabeth. It was a tough competition but April placed second in the District with only one word separating her and the winner. We are extremely proud of you April!
