Winding down @Windsor!

This way to the imaginative playground… WINDSOR! The best place to spend a day just being me!! It really is hard to believe that all the Grade Twos, 121 to be exact, can disappear into the play area of Windsor without a fuss. Every nook and cranny being explored with vivid imaginations and gusto. The ambulances, trucks, pirate ships, hospitals, fire engines and more come alive as friends build their own little worlds and play the day away The “BIKES & TRIKES” were most definitely a firm favourite this year. The races began at the starting line and those wheels zipped around the corners as they sped towards the finish. Some SCOOTERS were spotted zipping around and weaving in and out of t

Mo-vember Fun!

What does one do to celebrate the end of year final assessments coming to an end you ask? The Grade Twos of 2017 had some Mo-vember fun!! We got down to measure some of our classroom furniture with moustaches and got to dress up and pose BECAUSE we live in the age of selfies after all. Our assessments are “DONE & DUSTED” and Grade 3 is around the corner. With all this exciting news no wonder our smiles were BIG and our dreams for tomorrow even BIGGER. “Dream BIG little one” after all “You are never too young to dream big”

Excellence in Education Awards 2017

Each year Think Ahead host the Excellence in Education Awards to honour the digital work created in our schools across South Africa. It was the first year that we have entered our Junior iPad Club into the competition. The category #mySA was a new category launched this year and an exciting one allowing the Grade 3 club members to explore their story writing and movie making skills which we had been working on during the course of the year. There was much anticipation as we were notified that one of the projects submitted had been placed within the Top 3 in the category #mySA. It was such a privilege to attend the awards evening in Johannesburg on the 26 October and to be a part of this spec

Fyvie Music Concert and Cultural Awards

IN GENERAL…. It hardly seems possible that we have come to the end of our primary school careers at Herbert Hurd, but here we are. As we reflect on the activities of 2017, we realise what an important (and time-consuming!) part music has played. Many of us who are 14 years or younger have enjoyed the benefits to be gained in the music department, and we realise how privileged we are to be at a school which offers activities such as a concert band and two choirs, not to mention the individual tuition which has equipped us to make and appreciate music. 2017 has been challenging in many respects. With the departure of Ms du Toit and Mr Strydom, it was necessary for some swapping of woodwind

Grade 2 Outing to the SAAF Museum

GO! GO! GO! Our Term 3 Life Skills theme of TRANSPORT means we need to find somewhere exciting to visit where we can explore things that move! How fitting to be able to travel across town and visit the SAAF Museum. This is really a hidden treasure and an outing that our children absolutely adore. It is so exciting to be able to see, feel and touch the aircrafts that are inside the museum hangers and to hear the stories and tales of our Airforce and the aircrafts that protect our country. Our time in this marvelous place never seems long enough! The jungle gym outside is the perfect place to let our imaginations run wild. Under no instruction from the teachers the battlefield scenes unf
